The Art of Surfing in Perú is antique as the civilization. Every thing started like a necessity 3000 years ago. In the antique cultures of Moche and Chimú (north coast) you can find registers of fisherman surfing waves with “Caballitos de Totora”, today they are still surfing in Huanchaco. Surfing as a sport arrived in Perú in the fourtees, when Carlos Dogny brought the first wood surfboard to Perú. In the year 1942, Club Waikiki was founded in Miraflores. |

In the year 1965, Peruvian Felipe Pomar won the Surfing World Championship in Punta Rocas Beach. Sofía Mulanovich was ASP World Champion (women). Perú has many, many surf spots that break the whole year around. Beaches like Peñascal, Pico Alto, Punta Rocas, Chicama, La Herradura, Cerro Azul, Máncora, Lobitos, Cabo Blanco and many others must be preserved for ever. We must use them to increase tourism as other countries do (most without the same quality of waves that we have). |
